The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) blood test measures the level of hCG hormone present in a sample of your blood. HCG is produced during pregnancy.

The Pregnancy Hormone. The hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (better known as hCG) is produced during pregnancy.
It is made by cells formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall.

What is an hCG blood test for?
A qualitative HCG blood test checks if there is a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin in your blood. HCG is a hormone produced in the body during pregnancy.
Other HCG tests include: HCG urine test.

hCG level which indicate pregnancy
An hCG level of less than 5 mIU/mL is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25 mIU/mL is considered positive for pregnancy.
The hCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/mL).

I was really hoping this time round I'd get to skip this experience as I had this with my son from 6-26 weeks pregnant. But, unfortunately, as of Thursday I have definitely got morning sickness.

I don't really want to eat anything at all. Everything makes me feel so nauseas that I'm forcing food down. Inevitably for it to come back up again.

I've been fortunate that as a preschool assistant I've been off all summer but I'm heading back to work tomorrow and I am dreading it!!
Any tips??

Nothing really helped last time but I'm really struggling with feeling like this and trying to look after my son too.

The answers:

It's started for me. I'm really surprised, because I'm only 4 weeks along. 

I don't know why they call it "morning" sickness, because for me it seems to be more like "pre-lunch" sickness at the moment. I try to have a small snack (1-2 crackers) as soon as I sense it starting. That has seemed to settle it down the last couple of days. We'll see how long that works. 

 For this one I took a sleep aid called Unisom (1/2 a tablet) and added B6 to it. It does make you tired but it took the edge off and I was able to keep food down. Maybe talk to your doctor or midwife and see if maybe they can prescribe you something like Diclegis.

Most triplet pregnancies are the result of fertility-enhancing drugs. Powerful medications that cause many eggs to be released at once are used. The eggs are retrieved, in-vitro fertilization is performed, and three or four embryos (fertilized eggs) are then placed into the uterus to implant. Some or all of these fertilized eggs may successfully adhere to the wall of the uterus and grow. If they do, the results are twins, triplets, or quadruplets!

The delivery room will be crowded! Most triplet pregnancies are preterm (premature), approximately four to eight weeks early (32-36 weeks of gestation). A planned cesarean section delivery of triplets has probably not even been scheduled yet!

Having high levels of human chorionic gonadotrophin (also called hCG) or alpha-fetoprotein in your blood؟

Just Compare your days post ovulation with reported HCG level, along with other Uls Scan and Heart Beats you can know if you have twins or not?

Expected premature birth is before the thirty-seventh week, which usually happens with half of a twin pregnancy. Call your doctor if you think you are in labor. If you're really scared, go directly to the hospital Never drive the car yourself when you go to the hospital. Better to take safety precautions instead of feeling remorse.

Went to hospital last week 
and was told my HCG levels at 2 - 3 weeks pregnant were quite high, (they came in at 2282m/ul) I'm now being scanned in two weeks to check for a multiple birth!!!!
Just wondering is there any other mums to be on here who know what there HCG levels were at round about the same time so i can compare them or if any of you know a good site that explains the HCG in people terms rather then medical terms.

What's the correct calculation?
It varies for each pregnancy. Are you speaking of three weeks past your menstrual period or three weeks gestation? Most people don't know they are pregnant at three weeks because the the fertilized egg has just implanted or about to implant. You ovulate on week two, implant on week three. You would just be starting to secrete hcg and probibly not 2282. However, at four or five weeks pregnant (2-3 weeks gestation) 2282 is still normal for singleton. 

According to the HCG level chartLevel of HCG hormone for single should lies between 5 and 50 mIU/mL during the week three with a mean value of 42.
Also it is allowed to show increased HCG levels for single pregnancy up to few thousands.

My advice is not to be so concerned about the level of your hcg but with the doubling times (48-72 hours). On a side note, higher hcg levels are attributed with having twins! 

Another useful doubling scale for twins is to calculate doubling by yourself, if doubling in 3 weeks exceeds the 60% it should suggests multiples pregnancy.

Example case study of hcg level for twins at three weeks:At 2 weeks, 2 days (or 4 weeks, 2 days since last menstrual period) my hcg was 927.
At 3 weeks, 2 days (or 5 weeks, 2 days since last menstrual period) my hcg was 17,220. 
I am pregnant with twins.

The only study I have come across said (if I remember correctly) that if at 16dpo (2 weeks, 2 days) your hcg is 600 or more, that is correlated with multiples. Just correlated, not definitive. You can have twins with a lower hcg level and you can have a singleton with higher hcg levels, but you are more likely to have twins if your hcg was 600 or higher at 16dpo.

The Nurse practitioner said that makes me 4 weeks. But im closer to 5? I am going to have a repeat in 48 hours to make sure it has doubled. 

I'm only having my HCG tested as Ive had 3 very early miscarraiges.. my HCG only got to 42 in the last miscarraige. 

Does it sound normal? Just to put my mind at ease a little Thanks 

 The solution:
hcg 4 weeks 345Be reassured that while HCG hormone doubling is an average that is not correct for every woman, HCG level should rise by at least 60% in 48 hours.
A woman B-HCG level at 4w 1d was 109.8 and at 4w 3d it rose to 190 but when rechecked at 5w 4d and hcg level had risen to 5,257.
HCG values usually start to peak after the week 5.

I recommend such women
Ask your Dr. to test your progesterone level, 
Schedule you for an early scan at 7 weeks.
Just keep unstressed and get to know that:
Expecting your levels to exactly double can just worry you unnecessarily.
